Not caught by Servers Alive monitoring.

Reduced height of weather home page

Should now be only about two screens high

Adjusted barometer for sea level reading

I did it roughly when first installed, but am now comparing it to Kenley and Biggin Hill and it seems a tad low. I've inched it up by 1hPa, giving a total now of 9hPa above the unajusted reading from the indoor sensor. I think it should go up another one, but I'll leave it a month and then check it with the MADIS analysis presented by Philip Gladstone.

Completed a radiation shield for the outside sensor

It isn't a Stevenson screen, but a piece of drainage pipe painted white to reflect the sun. It used to shine on the old sensor on summer afternoons, this should remove the 6 o'clock spike when installed.

I'll post pictures of the new installation when completed

FreeWX-Wi outage 07:06 to 11:10

As before, the network got data, but no uploads. FreeWX-Wi was running on the console and the display was frozen although it responded to shutdown. Logging also ocurred, but with repeated 7:06 timestamp.

FreeWX-Wi outage 05:04 to 08:41

Slightly different this time, there were no sensor errors, only this in FRWPROG.LOG

17/05/2007 05:04:57 FTP routine has timed out and the upload has been cancelled

The data file seems to have the right data, but with repeated 05:02 timestamps, again no uploads but network data OK.

New google weather map

Weather Bonk (dubious name) have a widget which overlays weatherstation reports on a Google map, so we now have one on lhe right here. Rochester Lodge is in the middle.

There is also a Google Earth overlay, but I haven't got that going yet.

FreeWX-Wi outage 04:35 to 09:53

Similar to the 12th: errors with same timestamp in data, no uploads but network data OK.

12 May, 2007

FreeWX-Wi outage 22:51 to 23:37

No uploads, and the log file has repeated errors with the same timestamp but the network broadcasts continued OK.

Anemometer plugged in and working

On a table in the garden, so not the right windspeed, and I'm calibrating south on the wind vane - so don't believe that either.

Oops, sensor flooded

Just slinging the outdoor sensor in the garden was not a good idea, it weas hanging upside down and the rain ran up inside. A temp/hygro sensor over reads by 5 degrees Centigrade when full of water (from 8:30 to 10pm approx)

The road to recovery

OK, I've opened the box, plugged in the console, and powered the indoor and outdoor sensors. I've slung the outdoor one in the garden and configured the logging software (FreeWX-Wi).

We're back on the air but without wind and rain sensors, and the garden one will be a bit dodgy. I'll have to wait a bit until I can get on the roof and replace the old sensors with the new.

Anybody want some WM-918 bits? The console works, the anemometer could do with some TLC, and the outdoor temp/hygro sensor doesn't work.

New blog embedded in weather page

You may have noticed the news is now supplied by a blogger.com blog

I may be able to keep it up-to-date now.

I've ordered a replacement weather station

The hall redecoration is looking a bit messy without the weather console (the RS232 cable is poking through a hole in the wallpaper) so I'm getting another.
